Basically, an internship abroad is no different from an internship in a company in Germany.
If the internship is related to your studies, you can also apply for a semester off for a company internship.
The university hurdles for such an internship are quite low. Students can basically apply anywhere. Endorsement by professors is not necessary.
While one gains a lot of practical experience during such an internship, the internship rarely helps in the progress of studies.
It occasionally happens that the competencies certified by the internship certificate correspond to those of courses (typ. projects) and can therefore be recognized.
